Elizabeth Goenawan Ananto, PhD, FIPRA
Founder – International Public Relations Summit
In the digital era, communication is widely open, stakeholders are more diverse with various interests. Strategic communication needs to be empowered in a more effective way, sustainable and measurable. We see that digital technology changes people’s behavior thus organizations need different communication strategies. One of the strategic roles of public relations in organization management is to communicate those changes and to anticipate the impact of those changes that need to be addressed by the organization in order to continue to gain public trust and support both internally and externally.
IPRS is could widen the horizon of the stakeholders’, refusing the stigma that “PR is dead”. PR is a strategic communication that actually needs to develop its role and function in this digital era where there is multi-channel communication, fast-paced, that changes public behavior. Organizations need to position public relations into a more strategic way so that it can contribute more in communicating organization’s values that changes according to the demands of that time. Practitioners are also encouraged to develop new knowledge holistically that has never been considered.
IPRS is a source of inspiration to the development of strategic public relations. I look forward to seeing you at IPRS 2018, this November.

Speakers

I attended the International Public Relations Summit in Bali in 2012. That conference provided a great opportunity to learn Asian perspectives on public relations and to share success stories, learn new theories, and discuss important developments in practice such as digital media, research and measurement, global practice, and the importance of social responsibility and sustainability. The summit, organized admirably by EGA briefings, has been held every two years since then, and this year’s virtual conference is one of the best ever. Public relations is developing rapidly into a strategic management function throughout the world, and ideas about how to improve the profession are coming from every continent. Asian economies are among the most dynamic in the world, and public relations has played a strong role in their development. This year’s virtual conference offers a unique opportunity to learn from leading scholars and practitioners around the world and to do so from the comfort and safety of our own homes or offices.

Today’s enterprises are being challenged on all sides, by profound disruption driven by powerful digital platforms; shifting global markets; geopolitical challenges; and new consumer, citizen and employee expectations. CEOs are contending with competitive challenges from emerging technologies, new business models and shifting stakeholder expectations about the value an enterprise can and should create. At Page, we believe that this is an existential moment not only for our enterprises but also for our function. Each are threatened with extinction if they don’t respond effectively. We applaud the International Public Relations Summit for taking on these issues and look forward to a great conference.
Roger Bolton
President, Page

This year’s IPRS 2020 conference will present some interesting and important findings dealing with public relations and corporate communication. Keynote speakers will be focusing on concerns that are drawing attention—from COVID-19 to Chief Communication Officer (CO) strategic communication initiatives from the Page Society to reputation and crisis management. Technological challenges and opportunities will also be discussed, from digital technology through data determination and uses. There will be something for everyone in virtual attendance.

CEO, International Public Relations Research Conference

The IPRS is one of Southeast Asia's most well-organized and actionable conferences. Public affairs professionals, researchers, government leaders, and academia will all benefit from the global insights and conversations they will have at the IPRS. EGA briefings unfailingly creates a supportive and thoughtful environment for each year's summit. Highly recommended.
